On August 31 and September 2, Landry's Bikes teamed up with CRLS and the City's Community Development Department to help 27 CRLS students learn to navigate Cambridge by bike. The goal of this 2-day course was to teach students the rules and responsibilities of riding on the road, so that they could safely and comfortably ride to school.
Landry's Bikes and CDD taught youth the following skills:
- Rules and Responsibilities of the road
- Bike and helmet adjustments.
- Basic maintenance.
- Starting and stopping efficiently, especially in traffic and at red lights.
- Shifting gears.
- Steering out of trouble.
- Riding safely and legally in roadway traffic.
- Participating in group-rides with your friends.
- Making connections with the local bicycling community.
At the end of the course, all students received a certificate of completion, bike helmets, lights, and information to bring home and share with their families. All-in-all it was a very successful and FUN two days!
