Physics MCAS Prep for 9th Graders

Physics MCAS Prep for 9th Graders
Posted on 05/07/2015
Dear Class of 2018:

As you may be aware, Massachusetts high school students are required to pass an MCAS test in Science and Technology/Engineering (STE). At Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, the required science course for freshmen is Physics. The high school will be administering the Introductory Physics MCAS test to freshmen on June 8 and 9, 2015.

A student who passes this test will have met the state graduation requirement in science and technology/engineering and will not be required to participate in any further MCAS STE tests. The minimum passing score is 220, which is at the Needs Improvement performance level. If your child does not take and pass an MCAS Science and Technology/Engineering test in grade 9, he or she will be required to take an MCAS STE test in grade 10.

There are many review options available, and the physics department highly recommends that students from first semester take advantage of at least one of the opportunities. 9th grade community meetings will be completing a review packet. Practice tests are available on the MA DESE website. Review packets will be available in the Pearl K. Wise Library at CRLS within the next week.

The physics department at CRLS is offering after school review sessions for students who struggled in physics class or who may need review to be successful on the Physics MCAS.
