2016 - 17 Winter Season Athletic Summary

First and foremost I would like to thank you all of you for your support of our student athletes in their commitment to athletics and community here at CRLS.

We have had a very successful winter season on so many different levels, in terms of competitiveness but also overall improvement, student participation, and individual and team growth throughout the season.

I will list each team below with their highlights and any individual honors that we can share.

Boys Basketball: The Boys Basketball Team finished the regular season 19-0, repeating as League Champions. They have been ranked #1 in both the Boston Herald and Boston Globe throughout the season. They have earned the #1 Seed in the Division 1 North Bracket of the State Tournament and will host Lawrence this Friday Night 7Pm at the War Memorial. Senior Captain Jakigh Dottin recorded his 1,000 point this season. Jakigh shared DCL MVP honors with fellow Senior Captain Dimon Carrigan- each was named DCL All Star along with teammates Daniel Rymer, Kareem Octavien and Aiden Keefer. The team will host Lawrence HS Friday Night in the 2nd round of the D1 North Tournament.

Girls Basketball: The Girls Program worked very hard all season and reached a regular season record of 10-10, qualifying for tournament play, by upsetting a top ranked Newton North Program in the final game of the season for a 43-42 win. Captains leading the team who were also recognized as DCL All Stars were Kalilah Hall, Demi Akins and Maggie Pimlott. The girls team played at Woburn last night and unfortunately they were eliminated from the State Tourney.

Cheerleaders: They have supported several teams all winter season, with the highlight of the season coming from their Team Competition at Wilmington HS where they finished 2nd place in their Division, the highest finished for a CRLS Cheer Team in a long time.

Girls Gymnastics: The team competed tough all season long in a very tough gymnastics conference. The season was highlighted by a high score of 116.0 which was against the top team in the league Newton South. Tam Watzman was recognized as a DCL All Star.

Fencing: The Fencing Program saw a large growth in participation numbers. Overall the team finished 6th out of 13 schools at the State Championships. Lilla Csoknyai placed 3rd in women's epee and Jonas Hansen placed 3rd in men's epee.  Noah Scott was undefeated in the final round (5-0) and took the state title in men's epee for CRLS.  This is the 2nd time in our 3 years that CRLS has an individual state champion and our 3rd overall. On the season Lilla was 36-2; Jonas 37-3 and Noah 43-3.

Boys Ice Hockey: The Boys Ice Hockey Team begin the season 1-5 but finished the regular season 12-7-1 (going 11-2-1 in their last 14 games) They finished the season repeating as League Champions, and earned a #7 seed in the Division 3 North State Tournament. They had 6 league allstars- Trevor Daniliuk was named Player of the Year; Sky Heller was an All Conference Team Member; Freddie Gould, Myles Paton, Mihir Edulbreham and Harry Bayly also were recognized as All Stars. The team will play DCL opponent Wayland in the first round of the state tournament this Thursday 7:30PM at the John Ryan Rink in Watertown.

Girls Ice Hockey: The team finished 5-14-1; they won 3 games in a row which matches a program record. Four of the team's 14 loses were by one goal; the team competed all season long. The participation in girls hockey increased from 14 last year to over 30 girls this season, which they added a JV program which played 10 games on the season. The is the largest the program has been in its entire existence. Goalie Bella Jaffe was named a league All Star along with Bella Corcione, Adrienne Ashe and Grace Toner.

Track and Field: The members of the track and field program competed tough all season long. Several members of the program participated in the State Meet, headlined by DCL Long Jump Champions Zyair Aiguier- Bolling- also finished 3rd in Division 1 States; and Khadija Romain DCL Shotput and Division 1 Shot Put Champion.

Swim and Dive: The participation in the program increased this year, specifically the Dive team increasing from 6-8 divers in the past to 24 this season. The team broke a couple more records this year, and had several team members as representatives in the sectional and state meets. Those competing in State Competition were Sophie Mark-Ng, Allegra Berger, and we had Girls Relay Teams for the 200 Medley, 200 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle; for the Boys Owen Ryerson and Zakariah Teffahi.

Wrestling: The wrestling program had a very good season this year finishing the season 20-2-1. Several students competing in the Sectional Meet-Toru Goto repeated as Division 1 Central Sectional Champion; Edwin Owusu took 2nd place; Andre Domond, Zach Shetterly, Eli Zibello and Bernadin Senatus all took 3rd place in their weight classes and Alex Flamm finished 4th. Each competed in the Division 1 State Meet, Toru Goto finished 2nd in Division 1; Zach Shetterly took 6th both advanced to the All State Meet. Toru placed 2nd again in All States and has qualified for competition in New England Championships this upcoming weekend. Toru reached the milestone of over 100 victories for his career, this year his only two loses were in the Division 1 States and in All States. His season record was an amazing 50-2.
