2016 Winter Sports Summary
Posted on 03/03/2016

It is tourney time! This winter season has been a very good one for Cambridge Athletics. We have had several teams as well as individuals compete at a high level throughout the season right into the post season.

Our students have worked hard all season long, represented our school community and the City of Cambridge very well, and for that I am truly proud to be a part of athletics at CRLS. I have listed below a run down of our winter teams and a brief synopsis of the season.

Boys Basketball

Finished the regular season with a record of 19-1, and the #1 ranking in both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald for which they have held for the entire season. They have won the Dual County League Championship for the 2nd straight year, and have earned the #1 seed in the Division 1 North State Tournament Bracket.

The team is set to host (winner of the Somerville/Andover game) on Sunday, March 6th at 4PM here in Cambridge. Doors will open at 2:30PM and tickets will cost $7 for Adults and $5 for Students and Senior Citizens.

Jakigh Dottin, Kareem Octavien, Daniel Rymer and Dimon Carrigan have all been named League All Stars. Jakigh is the Player of the Year in the Dual County League and has been nominated as the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year.

Girls Basketball
Finished the regular season with a record of 12-8. They spent the first half of the season ranked in the top 20 in both the Globe in the Herald. They have earned a spot in the Division 1 Tournament as a # 10 seed in the North and are set to travel to Chelmsford High School for their 1st Round game at 7PM.

Yuleska Ramirez Tejeda, Kalilah Hall and Sarah Davis-Daniels are League All Stars

Boys Ice Hockey
Finished 12-7-1, earning the Dual County League/Merrimack Valley League Div. 3 League Championship. This is the first league championship since 2004. The Boys will play in the Division 2 State Tournament as they have the # 8 seed in the North. They play at Ryan Arena in Watertown, Tuesday, March 8th at 7:30PM.

Liam Doran, Trevor Daniluk, Zack Alves, Skyler Heller, Myles Paton and Fred Gould all earned All Star status.

Fencing
The Fencing Team had a good 2nd season. The Girls went 6-3 and saw Isabela Trumble earn 3rd in Girls Epee Blade.  The Boys finished the season 4-5, and took 2nd place in states, with Jonas Hansen finishing 3rd and Noah Scott 5th in Epee. Overall the boys and girls combined for a 6th place finish!

Girls Ice Hockey
Despite not winning a lot of games. The Girls Hockey season was a success as they competed well within league play, coming up on the short end of a lot of close games. However the girls gave a great effort every game. There is only one senior on this year's team, meaning that 15 players from the varsity roster will be returning to next year's team.

All Star vote is pending.
